Russia 2 - St Petersburg

In 1970 it was taken under the wing of the St Isaac Cathedral Museum which funded the majority of its restoration. It reopened in 1997 and is simply stunning inside. As we have come to expect there are ornate artifacts, impressive icons, marble pillars and glittering gilded decorations throughout.  The shrine is said to be constructed right on the spot where Alexander II was fatally wounded.
